Three mothers whose sons were all killed by New York city police officers lead a small march through the streets of The Bronx last night to call attention to police violence. The mothers were Juanita Young whose son Malcolm Ferguson was killed in the Bronx in 2000. Officer Louis Rivera, claimed the gun fired accidentally during an attempted drug arrest. The second mother was Hawa Bah whose son Mohamed Bah was killed in Harlem in 2012 after the family called for an ambulance. The police say Bah was wielding a knife but the family said there was no knife and the officer who screamed "he's stabbing me shoot him " was actually being tasered by a fellow officer. Bah was mentally ill. His mother had called for help. And the 3rd mother last night was Iris Baez whose son Anthony Baez was killed while he was playing football in the neighborhood. Accidentally the football hit a parked police car and officers handcuffed Baez and arrested him for disorderly conduct. He was placed in a chokehold and died. It was 1994. The march ended at the 46 police precinct where Officer Francis Livoti who killed Baez was stationed. New Yorkers await the decision on the Eric Garner grand jury. He was killed by NYPD officers in a chokehold in July. Photo @nina_berman @everydayblackamerica @everydayeverywhere @noorimages #stolenlives #blacklivesmatter by everydayusa

Anthony Johnson, a resident of Canfield Green Apartments in Ferguson MO, walks his daughter Aries home. The community on Canfield Drive, where Mike Brown was shot and killed by Darren Wilson, has been impacted in many profound ways. A police blockade and curfew after the August unrest severely limited people's mobility and access to their homes. Some were not able to get to work and as a result lost their jobs. The few nearby shopping options for basic staples have now been even further limited due to the destruction on W Florissant this week. While many residents support the protests and demand justice, many also long for a sense of normalcy to return. @zunleephoto for @everydayusa #ferguson #blacklivesmatter #everydayeverywhere by everydayusa

Little Rock - Arkansas A photo of Lucille Cooksey after a fall at the Stagecoach Nursing and Rehabilitation nursing home in Bryant, Arkansas. A complaint her son Kim Cooksey filed with the state said his mother was not moved for close to two hours. The director of operations at the home said its doctor gave orders not to move Cooksey until an emergency vehicle arrived. Thousands of nursing homes across the country had higher reported staffing levels, especially for registered nurses, on public government website Nursing Home than what they provided on an average daily basis, according to an analysis of annual financial documents by the Center for Public Integrity. Jeff Kelly Lowenstein has done a year long national investigation into nursing home staffing, racial disparities and government backed mortgages. Broken toilet bowl in an alley in #Detroit #Michigan Access to safe and affordable #water is out of reach for way too many people in the United States. Imagine that - even for a day - you lose the running water in your home to drink, cook, bathe and flush your toilet. In Detroit it is the everyday reality of thousands of families whose water has been shut off after falling behind in paying their bills. Equality and dignity is the theme of #WorldToiletDay2014, a day the UN dedicated to raise awareness about all people who do not have access to a #toilet - despite the human right to water and sanitation. Little Rock - Arkansas Louise Chapple raised 15 children on a farm in tiny Cotton Plant, Arkansas, Her daughter Lauretta Chapple documented the care problems she alleged her mother experienced at Sandalwood Healthcare, a majority-black facility in Little Rock. A lawyer for the nursing home declined to comment on Chapple’s’ care due to privacy concerns, but said that Arkansas Office of Long Term Care found no deficient practices resulting in actual harm to Louise Chapple. Sandalwood had one of the lowest listed levels of registered nurse staffing in the country in 2012, according to government website Nursing Home Compare. Nursing homes across the country had higher listed staffing levels on a public government website than the daily average staffing levels the Center for Public Integrity calculated through its analysis of annual financial documents. The staffing discrepancies were particularly high for registered nurses. In more than 80 percent of nursing homes across the country the daily listed level on public website Nursing Home Compare was higher than the daily average level of care, the Center found. Louise Chapple died in mid-November, 2014. Jeff Kelly Lowenstein has done a year long national investigation into nursing home staffing, racial disparities and government backed mortgages.
