This is Jared Moossy @jaredmoossy. Jared is a photographer, film maker, and a contributing member of @everydayUSA. On Sept. 3, six weeks before his wedding day, while riding his motorcycle home, he was critically injured when he was struck by a car driven by a 31-year-old man allegedly under the influence of alcohol. Jared is one of the most beloved members of our big family of photojournalists. #todayImet Knightscope K5, an autonomous data machine from #SiliconValley. K5 is capable of recording 360 video with its 4 cameras in both normal, thermal & infrared modes. It recognizes faces, license plates and is even capable of sensing weapons of mass destruction. Constantly playing an eery sound it did not come off particularly intelligent but at least it was gentle enough not to overrun me as I was snapping my shots. After citing a bunch of facts about the robot’s capabilities one of the data engineers rushed to mention that this does not mean that security guards will lose their job, K5 will be only an additional tool at their disposal. You can buy this photograph - link in bio - I took on a US Marine base in Afghanistan to support the recovery of fellow #everydayUSA contributing photographer, Texan @JaredMoossy A few weeks ago on my way to Austin I called up Jared to see if we could catch up after years of not seeing each other. When he did not show up for lunch the following day I was surprised, he is not the type who’d flake. A few hours later his fiancée called to let me know that Jared was hit by a drunk driver while riding his motorcycle home only hours after we spoke last night. He was between life and death and in and out of surgery for a couple of days. His friends set up the #JaredMoossy Recovery Fund on Indiegogo, a campaign to which I donated the photo posted here. Jared has a long way to recovery and is out of work for a long while, please consider supporting him along the rough road ahead.
