King Talk: South Side - Chicago Chicago consistently leads the country in the number of homicides and has see a significant this year in the number of killings. As of November 1 there were 407 murders, according to DNAinfo which tracks each and every reported murder in the city. One of the most horrific killings of the past few weeks was the execution style killing of 9 year old Tyshawn Lee who was gunned down while walking home from school on a recent afternoon. Unfortunately, the numbers only illustrate part of the story. Behind each number is a story of a life lost as gun violence continues to tear apart our communities in complex and often untold ways. As part of my ongoing South Side series I use graphite to combine my photographs with the historic markers of place and time in our city.
