Where highway 61 and 49 meets in Clarksdale is a store with a sign that reads reads: Krosstown Trade and Pawn - furniture - stereos - TV’s - tools - guns - jewelry I asked Donald, the owner about the place. “Clarksdale is a government town” he said meaning that most of the people in town are living on welfare provided by the government. The intersection is also known as the Devil's Crossroads. According to the legend Robert Johnson, a Mississippi blues singer and songwriter, sold his soul to Satan here in exchange for his remarkable talent on the guitar.
