The alkaline Mono Lake 350 miles north of Los Angeles. The controversy over #MonoLake is one of California's longest-running environmental disputes. In 1941 the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power began diverting the lake’s eastern Sierra tributary streams and as a result the lake level had dropped more than 40 vertical feet. Its volume halved, the water had doubled in salinity and the ecosystem began to collapse. Photo by Balazs Gardi (@balazsgardi) #everydayUSA #California #watercrisis #azdarya by everydayusa
