“I’m so nervous for the auction. Some of the families live in what are becoming "desirable” areas. One of them rehabbed their house from a fully gutted shell of a building and now its bid bait. The family is collecting bottle caps to save up as much money as possible.” - Michele Oberholtzer wrote me the other day. Michele, a writer, engineer and environmentalist, visits a family her organization, the Tricycle Collective (@thetricyclecollective), helped to buy their foreclosed home back from an auction. Last year- when I took this image in #Detroit - @thetricyclecollective raised $5000 and helped 10 families to buy back their homes from Detroit’s Land Bank and start with a clean slate. Currently they are running their annual fund and awareness-raising campaign to spread the word about tax foreclosure and make sure the people who can benefit most are prepared to take advantage of it. The aim is to collect $20,000 to help 20 families in Detroit buy their homes back from auction. The campaign ends in 3 days and they are almost there, please consider donating to this amazing organization by hopping over to @thetricyclecollective & clicking on their profile link.
