July 4, 2015 Freedom of Expression | Young Kayden is one of the few children from the "Chauncity" Housing Complex riding around in the empty lot that is located right beside the Complex. At a recent meeting, residents were told that they would not be given permission to use the empty lot for independence celebrations. They were also told via a notice posted earlier this week that no celebratory activities would be allowed in the vacant parking lot. Ever since Bushburg Properties picked up the four-building, 283-unit Bedford-Stuyvesant apartment complex from E&M Associates for $38 million, residents have found themselves in a real fight to get answers about their security from the new owners. However, despite the warnings, some residents put up tents and decided to celebrate their Fourth of July with their friends and families. "I just want to spend time with my uncle and friends," young Kayden said.
