Painter Kara Maria works at Recology’s art studio in #SanFrancisco. During her residency at @recologySF Kara created paintings from scavenged materials from the dump to make art and promote #recycling and reuse. Using found stretched canvases, including amateur paintings and digitally printed, mass-produced artwork from Ikea, Maria has overpainted the works with recycled acrylic paint from the Household Hazardous Waste Program. On each canvases she painted one of the living creatures that inhabit or pass through the site, including seagulls, raccoons, rats, hawks. The Artist in Residence Program at #Recology San Francisco was established fifteen years ago to encourage the conservation of natural resources and instill a greater appreciation for the environment and art in children and adults. Artists work for four months in a studio space on site, use materials recovered from the Public Disposal and Recycling Area, and speak to students and the general public. Go check out the work of Kara and her fellow artists this afternoon (Tuesday, January 27, from 5-7pm), this is the last chance to meet them and see their work created in the past four months.
